The short version. Almanac is a coursework planner. Use it for your own studies, don't abuse it, and pay for the plan you chose. We'll do our best to keep it running and your data safe, but it's a small product — keep your own backups of anything that matters, and never rely on it alone for a deadline that counts.

1. Who we are

Almanac ("we", "us") is operated by Almanac, based in Canada. You can reach a human at hello@usealmanac.ca.

2. Your account

You need an account to use Almanac. Keep your password to yourself; you're responsible for what happens under your login.
One account is for one person. Sharing a paid account with classmates isn't allowed and we may suspend accounts that are clearly shared.
You must be old enough to enter a contract where you live, and at least 13. If you're under 16 in the EEA or UK, you need a parent or guardian's permission.
You can delete your account at any time from Settings. It's immediate and permanent.

3. Plans, billing and refunds

Prices are in US dollars and exclude any sales tax or VAT, which is added at checkout where the law requires it.
Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card details.
Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. Cancel any time in Settings → Manage subscription; you keep access until the end of the period you've paid for.
Refunds. Yearly plans include a 7-day full refund, no reason needed — just email us. Monthly plans aren't normally refunded, since you can cancel before the next charge, but if you were charged by mistake or something was broken, tell us and we'll sort it out.
If a payment fails, we'll keep your access for a short grace period and email you before anything changes.
We may change prices. Existing subscribers get at least 30 days' notice by email, and the new price only applies from your next renewal.

4. Usage limits

Each plan includes a number of syllabus reads — one read per document you import. Free reads are a one-time allowance; paid reads reset on the first of each month and don't roll over. A single very long document may be capped for length. Limits exist because reading a syllabus costs us real money in AI usage, and they're set so ordinary use never comes close.

Automated scraping, reselling access, or running the import feature against documents that aren't your own coursework are all grounds for suspension.

5. Your content

Your coursework is yours. Uploading a syllabus gives us permission to process it in order to give you the results, and nothing else. We don't claim ownership, we don't sell it, and we don't use it to train AI models. You can export everything as a file at any time, on any plan, including after you cancel.

You're responsible for having the right to upload what you upload.

6. What Almanac is not

Read this one properly. Almanac reads syllabi automatically and it will sometimes get a date, a weight or a deadline wrong. That's why every import shows you a review screen before anything is saved. Almanac is a convenience, not a system of record. Always check your official course pages and your institution's calendar. We are not responsible for a missed deadline, a misread date, or a grade calculation that turns out wrong.

Grade calculations are estimates based on what you enter. They are not official and carry no weight with your institution.

7. Availability

We aim to keep Almanac running but make no uptime promise. We may change, pause or discontinue features. If we ever shut the service down, we'll give at least 30 days' notice by email so you can export your data.

8. Liability

Almanac is provided "as is". To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability to you for any claim is limited to whatever you paid us in the 12 months before the claim — which for most people is under $30, and for free users is nothing. We're not liable for indirect or consequential losses, including missed deadlines or academic outcomes.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited, including for fraud or death or personal injury caused by negligence. If you're a consumer, you keep all the statutory rights your local law gives you.

9. Ending things

You can stop using Almanac and delete your account whenever you like. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, is used fraudulently, or is charging back payments. If we close your account without cause, we'll refund the unused part of any prepaid period.

10. Changes to these terms

If we make a material change we'll email you at least 30 days beforehand. Carrying on using Almanac after that means you accept the new terms.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Canada, without affecting any mandatory consumer protections in the country you live in.
