The short version. We collect your email, your coursework, and a usage counter. No advertising, no analytics trackers, no cookies beyond the one that keeps you signed in, and we never sell anything or use your syllabi to train AI models. Export or delete everything yourself, any time, from Settings.
Almanac, in Canada, is the data controller for information you put into Almanac. Contact: hello@usealmanac.ca.

We do not collect: your name, your institution, your location, your contacts, advertising identifiers, or any behavioural analytics. There is no tracking pixel and no third-party analytics script in this app.
When you import a syllabus, the extracted text (or an image of the pages, if the PDF has no text layer) is sent to Anthropic so that Claude can pull out the dates and weights. What comes back is shown to you for review before anything is saved.
If a syllabus contains something you'd rather not send to a third party, don't import it — type those items in by hand instead. Everything in Almanac works without the import feature.
We use no advertising or analytics cookies, so there is no consent banner to click through. What we do use:
Clearing your browser data removes all of it. Nothing there is shared with anyone.

Each is bound by its own data-processing terms. Where data leaves the UK/EEA, transfers rely on Standard Contractual Clauses.
You can export everything and delete your account yourself, from Settings, without asking us. Beyond that, depending on where you live, you have the right to access, correct, restrict or object to our processing of your data, and to complain to your local data protection authority (in the UK, the ICO; in the EU, your national regulator).

Traffic is encrypted in transit. Your coursework is protected at the database level by row-level security, so one account's rows are unreadable by another even if application code has a bug. API keys live only on the server and are never sent to your browser. No system is perfect; if we ever have a breach affecting you, we'll tell you and the relevant regulator as the law requires.
Almanac is for students in higher education and is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect their data; if you believe a child has created an account, email us and we'll remove it.
If we change anything material, we'll email you before it takes effect.
